Minimum System Requirements

Intel Macs are highly recommended for both clients and servers

Client Machines

  • Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
  • Intel / PowerMac G5 or G4 running 867 Mhz or faster
  • 1-4 gigs of RAM (Memory)
  • 10 GB of available hard drive space
  • Internet connection to server*

Server - Less than 25 Clients

  • Dedicated server not required, but recommended
  • Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
  • Intel / PowerMac G5 or G4 running 867 Mhz or faster
  • 1-4 gigs of RAM (Memory)

Server - More than 25 Clients

  • Dedicated server required
  • Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
  • Intel Mac
  • 2-4 gigs of RAM (Memory)

Server Hard Drive

  • Enough hard drive space to store 30 daily MacPractice backups - (Typical backups range from 1-5 gigs)
  • 3.5" hard drives highly recommended

Server Backups**

  • DVD or CD burner for backups less than 4.7 GBs
  • External Hard drive(s) for backups larger than 4.7
  • Have offsite backups in case of theft / fire / flood, etc.

MySQL

  • MySQL Pro

Network

  • Hardwired Switched Ethernet Highly Recommended
  • Static IP addressing to each computer

Remote Access

  • VPN Highly Recommended

* An Internet connection (cable or DSL preferred) is required to:
  • Initially download MacPractice software
  • Activate your MacPractice software license
  • Reactivate MacPractice license each billing period
    (this does not require quitting MacPractice)
  • Make changes to purchased software Abilities
  • Receive updates to MacPractice
  • Communicate via email, iChat, or remote control with MacPractice administration, tech support or training department
  • Video conference with iSight; and 8 access the MacPractice QuickTime help movies

** Time Machine will not backup your MacPractice database. MacPractice data is stored in the MySQL database and this isn't backed up by Time Machine. MacPractice recommends you burn at least one backup disc at the end of every business day. This will help ensure you always have a good backup to revert to in the event of unforeseen circumstances, such as equipment theft, fire, natural disasters or hard drive/hardware failure.

Data Migration
